Directorate of I&I Peshawar shows 253% increase in terms of value of seized goods

The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Peshawar has detected smuggled goods and NDP vehicles in worth of Rs.1553 million during first two quarter of FY (financial year) July to December 2023-24.

Shafqat Ali Khan Niazi the Director Customs I&I (Customs Intelligence and Investigation) Peshawar has said that In line with the vision of Ch. Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, Director General, Intelligence and Investigation (Customs), Islamabad, the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation (Customs)FBR, Peshawar has performed extraordinary to curb the menace of smuggling in area of its jurisdiction.

He said that the Directorate has foiled various attempts of smuggling of goods and narcotics. Further, the Directorate has helped in highlighting smuggling trends and helping other field formation by disseminating timely intelligence reports to foil any attempt of the smuggling of non duty and contraband goods within its jurisdiction.

The Director said that during 1st two Quarters july to December FY2023-24 the Directorate has detected cases of smuggled goods and vehicles valuing Rs.1553 million as compared to previous 1st two Quarters of FY2022-23 as Rs.440 million, showing an increase of 253% in terms of value.

Telling the During the 1st Two (02) Quarters of FY23-24 the Directorate has detected cases of smuggled goods valuing Rs.994.52 million as compared to previous 1st Two (02) Quarters of 2022-23 as Rs.267.32 million, showing an increase of 272% in terms of value.

The Director said that the Directorate of I&I Peshawar has seized 64 Nos of non-duty paid / smuggled vehicles valuing Rs.269.38 million during the 1st Two (02) Quarters of FY2023-24 as compared to 53 Nos during previous year 1st Two (02) Quarters valuing Rs.165.69 million, showing an increase of 63% in terms of value.

Telling the seizure of smuggled Foreign Origin Cigarettes he said that on the special directions of the Director General, the Directorate carried out special anti-smuggling campaign against cigarettes mafia and has seized 6,673,000 sticks of foreign origin cigarettes valuing Rs.224.54 million during 1st Two (02) Quarters of 2023-24 while as compared to 723,400 sticks valuing Rs.7.21 million during previous year’s 1st Two (02) Quarters, showing increase of 3014% in terms of value of the cigarettes.

Telling the details of seizures of narcotics the Director said that the Directorate seized Hashish (Charas) 58 Kgs of valuing Rs.65 million during previous year’s 1st Two (02) Quarters, FY2022-23

The Directorate realized revenue of Rs.253.87 million through auction with an increase of 158% over the last year 1st Two (02) Quarters 2022 The Director I&I Peshawar concluded.
