T20 World Cup 2024: Skipper Babar Azam loses battle against US seamers

In their opening game of the ICC T20 World Cup against the United States on Thursday, Pakistan suffered an early setback, losing five wickets in under 13 overs.

By the end of 16 overs, Pakistan's total had reached 126-6. All-rounder Shadab Khan's attempts to counterattack after the early wickets failed as he too succumbed to the wrath of the US spin attack.

Captain Babar Azam continued to stabilize the innings with raining boundaries after Shadab and Azam Khan’s dismissals. However, the skipper finally lost against US seamers, departing for 44 off 43 balls.

United States captain Monank Patel won the toss and chose to field first in the T20 World Cup match at Dallas’ Grand Prairie Stadium. The co-hosts, coming off a victory against arch-rivals Canada, faced Pakistan in their opening Group A encounter.

Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan fell early to Saurabh Netravalkar's delivery, caught by Steven Taylor in slips, while Usman Khan was caught by Nitish Kumar off Nosthush Kenjige's bowling. Fakhar Zaman followed suit, departing after a mistimed shot.
