Quetta Field Enforcement Chaman seizes smuggled goods worth Rs 300 M

Field Enforcement Unit (FEU) Chaman, Collectorate of Customs, Quetta has seized smuggled/non-duty paid goods worth Rs.300 Millions in a series of anti- smuggling operations conducted over a period of last five months April to Augus2023.

According to information Customs Quetta shared said that Pursuing directions of Collector Customs Enforcement Irfan-ur-Rahman, the FEU Chaman has significantly intensified its counter-smuggling efforts and has initiated crackdown on various types of smuggled goods, with a particular focus on essential commodities (sugar and urea), currency(National and foreign),Cigarettes, mobile phones, Iron/steel goods and other items.

During 5 months of current financial year 2023-24 the following steps and measures were taken to curb the menace of smuggling.

Irfan ul Rehman the Collector Enforcement Collectorate of Quetta FEU, Chaman taken important measures to equiped the FEU as under.

1. Training of Customs staff to effectively control currency smuggling through Baggage Scanners /random physical search.

2. Procurement and utilization of modern currency notes counting machine at pedestrian route.

3.Enhancement of human resource (Inspectors and sepoys) on all key points/gates for strict vigilance.

4. Mobile Squad has been activated and has conducted various anti-smuggling operations/raids on intel basis.

5. Reconciliation of all import and export vehicles as per SRO is being properly done.

6. Currency Declarations Counters have been established where international travellers fill CDS forms and the same is being fed in the Weboc System.

7. Staff has been deputed at Tassaduq gate (other than FS Gate) to monitor the movement of travellers at divided villages of border.

8. A special team comprising Inspector and sepoys has been constituted to get intel from other LAE and to coordinate with them on daily basis to prevent any attempt of smuggling in the form of concealments/cavities in vehicles.

A Press Release issued by Collectorate of Enforcement Quetta said that due to implementation of above-mentioned steps, FEU Chaman has successfully seized significant quantities of smuggled goods including essential commodities of value more than Rs 300 Millions, those were comprising sugar 442 Metric Tons in value Rs.65 Millions, Currency (Pakistani/Foreign) Value Rs.32 Millions, Mobile Phones, Laptops, Wi-Fi devices Cigarettes in value of more than Rs.200 Millions.
