PTI’s Hammad Azhar resurfaces a year after May 9 riots

Hammad Azhar, a prominent leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who had been missing since the events of May 9 last year, has re-emerged, Express News reported.

Azhar made an unexpected appearance at the central PTI Secretariat in Islamabad on Wednesday, leaving onlookers astonished.

The former minister stated that he had received instructions from the PTI founder Imran Khan the previous day, directing him to take charge of the party's leadership in Punjab.

Expressing his faith in the judiciary, Azhar mentioned his plans to secure pre-arrest bail from the Peshawar High Court and then fight his cases in the Punjab courts.

"I believe in the courts and will obtain pre-arrest bail from the Peshawar High Court before addressing my cases in Punjab. All the charges against me are false and baseless, and I trust the judiciary to deliver justice," he asserted.

In a direct appeal to the Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, the PTI leader urged the dismantling of the country's oppressive system before his retirement.

"I appeal to the CJP to dismantle the current tyrannical system before his retirement. The youth of our nation have high hopes pinned on him, and achieving this will make him immortal," he emphasised.

Azhar also condemned the attack on fellow PTI leader Raoof Hasan, revealing that following the incident, he received a message from PTI's founder to end his hiding.

"After the incident [with Raoof Hasan], I received a message from our leader to come out of hiding. Previously, I was instructed to avoid arrest at all costs due to the potential for violence against me," Azhar disclosed.

He indicated that other leaders, including Murad Saeed, would soon also come out of hiding.
