Pak-Afghan Torkham border closes for import and export

The senior customs officials posted at Torkham said that the Pak-Afghan Torkham border has been closed for all trade since 12:00 pm on July 31.

Traders in Peshawar have also confirmed that the Torkham border between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been closed for all trade.

According to media reports, the coordinator for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of Pak-Afghan joint industry and trade, Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, says that Torkham is closed for export and import from 12 o’clock yesterday night.

Vehicles with temporary entry documents or ‘TAD’ certificates and passport visas are also parked on both sides of the border, they are also not allowed to come and go.

Pakistan had asked Afghan truck drivers to obtain temporary documents to cross the border by July 31, but most drivers did not.

Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi further said that the Afghan government itself had asked for a period of entry of trucks without temporary documents till July 31,2024 which will end yesterday he added that when Pakistan stopped trucks carrying goods without documents, the Afghan side also stopped Pakistani vehicles from entering.
