Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has seized smuggled Iranian Petrol, NCP/tampered vehicles and other goods worth more than Rs44 million.
Sources said that information was passed through Director Saquif Saeed to Additional Director Nausheen Faisal that a group involved in organized smuggling of petrol/diesel would attempt to smuggle Iranian petrol to Karachi.
Deputy Director Inamullah Wazir mounted en surveillance on Gulistan-e-Johar area which led to the interception of the oil tanker, which was about to unload at petrol pump in Gulistan-e-Johar area.
A huge quantity (15,000 liters) of smuggled petrol were recovered. In another case, oil tanker carrier 9000 liters smuggled Iranian petrol was also seized. Value of the seized smuggled petrol and oil tankers are estimated to be Rs19 million.
Moreover, six NCP or tampered vehicles have been seized. Value of the seized vehicles are estimated to be Rs21.5 million.
Further, ladies suiting cloth rolls have been seized. Value of the seized cloth is estimated to be Rs 3.5 million.
It is necessary to mention here that Director-General Customs Intelligence and Investigation Faiz Ahmad directed all anti-smuggling squads to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling.
