The Customs Intelligence Karachi raided the targeted premises and a huge quantity of smuggled Spark Plugs and other auto parts of Japan origin were seized got worth billions of rupees.
According to details told by Afzal Wattoo Additional Director Customs Intelligence Karachi that a credible information was passed on by Director General Customs Intelligence Faiz Ahmad Chadhar to Engr Habib Ahmad the Director Customs Intelligence Karachi that a huge quantity of smuggled Spark Plugs and other spare parts are present at some warehouse situated at S.I.T.E Area, Karachi.
The area was kept under the covert surveillance of the staff of Customs Intelligence. The surveillance led to the ascertainment of the target area / warehouse.
A team comprising of Deputy Director and Superintendent Anti-Smuggling Organisation of Customs Intelligence, Karachi was constituted which raided the target premises and a huge quantity of smuggled Spark Plugs and other auto parts of Japan origin mentioned below were comprising
1. NGK Brand Iridium Spark Plugs origin Japan
Total quantity = 540000 pcs Market value = Rs. 1508 millions
2. 555 Brand Tie Rod End origin Japan Total quantity = 2500 pcs Market value = Rs. 10.85millions
3 555 Brand Ball Joints origin JapanTotal quantity = 410 pcs Market value = Rs. 1.90 millions
4. 555 brand Rack End origin Japan
Total quantity = 435 pcs Market value = Rs. 2.29 millions
Grand Total =Rs. 1523 Millions were recovered.
Additional Director said that the approximately market value of above recovered smuggled goods has been ascertained as Rs 1.523 billions. Legal proceedings have been initiated accordingly. Further investigation is underway to reach out to the planners, financers and executors behind smuggling of these Spark Plugs.
Telling further raids conducted by I&I Karachi Afzal Watoo said that earlier on 31st September, 2023, another raid was conducted at Godown situated at Phase 1, D.H.A Karachi from where a huge quantity of smuggled Spark Plugs of Chinese origin were recovered valuing Rs. 169 millions and FIR has been lodged in this respect and further investigation is underway.
Moreover the Additional Director told that the Directorate of I&I Karachi has also made effective seizures of more than 02 millions sticks of Foreign Origin Smuggled Cigarettes along with miscellaneous goods in two operations conducted at two different locations in Saddar Area of Karachi, valuing Rs100 million.
He also informed that the Director General Customs Intelligence Faiz Ahmad Chadhar appreciated the effort and urged the officers and staff of Customs Intelligence, Karachi to make more efforts to curb the menace of smuggling in the region.
In the month of November, 2023 till now the Directorate of Customs Intelligence, Karachi has made 25 cases valuing more the Rs. 2.045 billions. Whereas during the last five months 153 seizure cases valuing 4.549 billion have been made.
Additional Director told that the Directorate of Customs Intelligence appreciated the efforts and support of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh and Sindh Police who are providing all the possible efforts & support for curbing the menace of smuggling.
