Additional Director Afzal Watoo has said that the directions of DG Faiz Chadhar, the Directorate of Customs Intelligence Karachi detected massive under invoicing in import of Vegetable Oil and its products from Indonesia by M/s. Food Links International, Karachi.
Additional Director informed that the importer was found to be clearing goods on fake invoices of lower value. The loss to national exchequer through evasion of duties and taxes by the importer has been estimated to be around Rs 275 million So far four original invoices were retrieved from different sources in Indonesia.
Efforts are underway to retrieve other original invoices.FIR has been lodged against the importer and his accomplices. The Director Customs Intelligence informed that besides crack down against smuggling equal focus is being paid at the Directions of DG Faiz Chadhar towards loss to the national exchequer through under-invoicing and assistance is being sought from other agencies to reach out to Hawala/Hundi operators and other operators through which the remaining foreign exchange is transfered by unscruplous importers to the shippers abroad.
