Due to abolition of superintendent at Azakhel Dry Port KPK, clearing agents and examiners have lost billions of rupees to government exchequer.
According to the details Jameel Nasir Chief Collector KPK had transferred the superintendent from Izakhel Dry Port during his tenure due to which the revenue has decreased by 30 to 40%.
According to sources, the removal of the superintendent from the dry port was a bad move because in the presence of the superintendent, checks could be kept on the examiners and clearing agents as the customs officers i.e. ACs or DCs were not just sitting in the rooms and running the dry port but the superintendent went to the field while Checks and clears each consignment.
Sources further said that now the routine is that 60 to 70 lakhs is charged on the container on which 1 crore duty tax is levied and the rest is being pocketed. Remember that it was difficult to do such work when there was a superintendent.
The new Chief Collector KPK Khawaja Khurram Naeem can be expected to look into the issue and appoint a superintendent at the dry port to protect the national exchequer.
The correspondent contacted chief collector kpk and collector MCC Appraisement Peshawar to get there point of view on this issue but till this time no reply received.
