The anti-smuggling team of Customs Intelligence, Karachi has seized smuggled goods worth Rs 155 million.
According to details shared by Deputy Director Inam Ullah Wazir that the anti smuggling Organization (ASO) team of Customs Intelligence Karachi has tapped up its counter smuggling operations and has affected huge seizures in the last four days.
On a specific information that a group involved in organized smuggling of betel nuts, cigarettes and Ghutka would attempt to smuggle a bus load to Karachi and then onward distribute it in suburbs, surveillance was mounted on Liaqatabad area which led to the interception of the bus.
A huge quantity of smuggled betelnuts, cigarettes & Ghutka were recovered. Value of the seized goods and vehicle is estimated to be Rs.26 million approx.
The ASO team remained aggressive against the smugglers involved in Non duty paid & tampered vehicles during last four days and seized more than dozen vehicles. Value of the seized vehicles is estimated to be Rs 60.5 million.
Various other seizures made in the last four days are of smuggled diesel, betel nuts, cigarettes, Ghutka, foreign origin tyres, foreign origin ladies/gents suiting fabric, skimmed milk, tiles, cosmetics and food items. Value of the seized miscellaneous goods is estimated to be Rs 68.1 million.
The total value of the seized goods is estimated to be Rs154.6 million, the cases has been registered and vigilance tighten to prevent smuggling activities.
