MCC Islamabad seizes smuggled smart phones and smart watches worth Rs.50 million

Preventive squad of MCC (model customs collectorate) Islamabad foiled attempt of 5000 mobile phone comprising smart and feature phones including and 600 smart watches worth millions of rupees in Islamabad and arrested two persons along with offending vehicle.

The Customs seizing officer Inspector Baber told the correspondents that under guidance of Collector MCC Asif Hargan, Additional Collector Maryam Khalid and Deputy Collector Jalal Haider the Customs staff during patrolling stopped a vehicle at federal capital where after searching of the vehicle found huge quantity of smuggled phone.The I&P Official revealed that a total of 5,500 smuggled mobile phones were recovered and got in custody, he added that the value of seized phones was approximately over Rs.50 million were.

The officials took action after receiving a tip-off and arrested two individuals at Golra Mor along with the illicit mobile phones. The seized mobile in quantity of 2000 were smart phones made by Vietnam and 3000 feature mobiles were made by China.the offending vehicle also have been seized.

The authorities have initiated a further investigation into the matter after getting a five-day Judicial physical remand of the two smugglers resident of Gilgit Baltistan.The case has been registered under Customs Act, the customs squad participated in this case was including Inspector Babar, Sepoy Shaukat Mehmood, Muhammad Hameed, Mustjab Haider and Driver Anyat.

The Collector Customs MCC Asif Hargan appreciated the DC Preventive Jalal and his Customs squad to made outstanding case.

It should be noted that in recent months, various attempts at mobile phone smuggling have been foiled by the authorities. Earlier, customs officials revealed that the smugglers are using Umrah pilgrims for their illicit activities.

Last month, Customs officials recovered phones worth Rs.20.74 million from an expatriate family, comprising women and children.

Similarly, in another such incident, authorities apprehended four individuals and seized 168 mobile phones worth Rs.130 million from their possession.
